The MCP23016-I/SS provides 16-bit, general-purpose, parallel I/O expansion for I2C bus applications. It features a fast I2C bus clock frequency of up to 400 kbits/s and operates on a supply voltage from 2.0V to 5.5V. This device offers high-current drive capability of ±25 mA per I/O pin and includes an open-drain interrupt output that activates upon an input state change. Three hardware address pins allow up to eight MCP23016 devices to share the same I2C bus, making it a simple solution when additional I/Os are needed for sensors, push buttons, or LEDs in microcontroller-based systems.
